Self-leadership + leadership are only two out of three critical building blocks. In the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/positivesolutions.fi\/en\/successful-leadership-in-times-of-uncertainty-and-change-part-3-3\/\">next part (Part 3)<\/a><\/span>, I will address what is perhaps the most challenging \u2013 and most decisive \u2013 of all: <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/positivesolutions.fi\/en\/successful-leadership-in-times-of-uncertainty-and-change-part-3-3\/\">how we build high-performing teams<\/a><\/span>.<\/p><p><em>\u201cLeadership is not about being in charge. It is about taking care of those in your charge.\u201d<\/em> ~ Simon Sinek<\/p><h2><strong>What is leadership \u2013 really?<\/strong><\/h2><p>Leadership is a journey without a final destination. It\u2019s about leading yourself, leading others, and together creating teams and cultures that can withstand change, challenges and opportunities.<\/p><p>Too often, leadership is confused with titles and positions. But that\u2019s not what matters. Leadership is about people. About relationships. About building trust, communicating clearly and creating the conditions for others to give their very best.<\/p><p><em>\u201cDo not wait for leaders; do it alone, person to person.\u201d<\/em> ~ Mother Teresa<\/p><p>We all carry experiences of both good and poor leadership. Leaders who helped us grow, and leaders who drained our motivation. That tells us something important: leadership doesn\u2019t live in policy documents \u2013 it lives in every meeting, every conversation, every decision.<\/p><p>I\u2019ve had the privilege of working across industries with managers of very different leadership styles \u2013 and 97% of them good ones. Each has taught me valuable lessons and given me the opportunity to grow, both professionally and personally. Have we always agreed? They come with different backgrounds, needs, motivations and fears. Getting them aligned takes more than goals, results and follow-ups.<\/p><p>It requires that you:<\/p><ul><li>build trust,<\/li><li>are clear and consistent,<\/li><li>are present, listening fully \u2013 and between the lines,<\/li><li>and dare to address issues and stay in uncomfortable conversations.<\/li><\/ul><p>A study by Crucial Learning shows that two-thirds of new managers find leadership significantly harder than expected. More than half said they received little or no training to prepare for the role. Poor leadership rarely stems from bad intent \u2013 more often from lack of knowledge, inexperience and sometimes poor self-awareness.<\/p><p>Think about it: would you install a new IT system or introduce a new machine without training? Yet this is exactly what many organizations do when appointing new managers. For example, a successful expert is promoted to a leadership role with staff responsibility \u2013 without further training.<\/p><h2><strong>The most common stumbling blocks for leaders<\/strong><\/h2><ul><li><strong>Lack of time:<\/strong> \u201cI don\u2019t have time to build relationships.\u201d<\/li><li><strong>Communication gaps:<\/strong> Messages are repeated, repeated, repeated \u2013 yet still don\u2019t land.<\/li><li><strong>Lack of feedback:<\/strong> When it\u2019s given, it\u2019s often perceived as criticism or clumsy.<\/li><li><strong>Poor delegation:<\/strong> Tasks remain stuck with the manager.<\/li><li><strong>Fear of conflict:<\/strong> Discomfort is avoided \u2013 until it explodes.<\/li><\/ul><p>The result? Leaders burn out, employees disengage, and the organization loses out through inefficiency, high turnover and a culture that stifles innovation \u2013 in other words: poor results.<\/p><h2><strong>The key \u2013 relationships, clarity and trust<\/strong><\/h2><p>Leading others successfully means:<\/p><ul><li>knowing yourself, your people and your team \u2013 seeing the individual behind the role,<\/li><li>communicating the <strong>why<\/strong>, not just the <strong>what<\/strong> \u2013 through dialogue, not monologue,<\/li><li>building trust through consistency, fairness and transparency,<\/li><li>giving genuine, spontaneous positive feedback,<\/li><li>adapting your leadership \u2013 one size does not fit all.<\/li><\/ul><p>The command-and-control era \u2013 \u201cdo as I say, why? because I said so\u201d \u2013 is dead. So is the time when leaders were feared. <strong>Or is it?<\/strong><\/p><p>In short: results are created through people and relationships \u2013 not spreadsheets.<\/p><h2><strong>Invest in all your managers and leaders \u2013 not just a few<\/strong><\/h2><p>Recently, I\u2019ve seen organizations invest enormous amounts in training \u2013 but only for one or a few top executives.<\/p><p>Training is always good, but here\u2019s my challenge to you: Why spend \u20ac100,000 on developing one or two leaders, when you could instead give 25 managers a shared, long-term program \u2013 a common culture, a shared toolkit and a common language? On top of that, you create a strong, supportive network across boundaries, harnessing the unique strengths of each individual.<\/p><p>And it doesn\u2019t stop there. Combine this with individual support from a \u201cthinking partner\u201d \u2013 a professional coach \u2013 and every leader gets the chance to find their inner compass, tackle personal challenges and set measurable goals.<\/p><p>When leadership across the organization operates at the same high level and is rolled out collectively, a powerful leverage effect is created.
